最近開始注意Bob Dylan這位民謠歌手 我知道很多人對他都很熟悉的

但我之前只知道他的名字 我知道他是民謠歌手 但是我對他的歌及生平並不熟悉

前陣子他來台灣開演唱會 這個訊息讓我注意到他 也開始聽他的歌 聽了近一個月 我覺得這個歌手真的很有意思

歌詞都有很深的含意 讓聽者有很大的詮釋空間

最近特別喜愛的是他最有名的一首歌曲 Like a rolling stone

先看看歌詞：

查了一下資料 才發現這首我以為是歌頌個人自由的作品 原本創作的意圖竟可能是Dylan對他愛慕女子的報復與嘲弄

原來歌詞裡的Miss Lonely 可能意指Edie Sedgwick 這位曾經與普普藝術大師Andy Warhol過從甚密 後來又與Bob Bylan有短暫戀情的女子

今晚看了DVD "Factory Girl" 中譯"安迪沃荷與他的情人" 對這三角關係有更深的理解 電影有可能有穿鑿附會的部份

不過我大概可以理解歌詞裡的Miss Lonely 就讀名校 出入上流社會 耽溺聲色犬馬的生活

藉著歌詞 歌手(Bob Dylan) 呼籲這位女士脫下皮草 鑽戒 回歸簡單的生活 

好吧 的確像電影中那位一直沒有具名的歌手(影射的應該就是Bob Dylan)對Edie的想法

不過呢 就像文學研究裡有所謂的文本分析或作者理論 單就文本裡的訊息去解釋文本 或是從作者的生平去解讀作品

我倒不想這樣來看Like a Rolling Stone這首歌 因為我對它的背景及脈絡了解的還不夠多 何況就我對Bob Dylan的理解

他並不喜歡別人幫他貼標籤 而且被問及他的歌曲含義時 Bob Dylan總是含糊其詞 不做明顯的解釋

在Wikipedia對Like a Rolling Stone這條目的解釋 其中有一句是這樣：

"when I used words like 'he' and 'it' and 'they,' and talking about other people, I was really talking about nobody but me."

那對於這首歌的"you" 我寧願解釋成Bob Dylan自己 就我對Bob Dyaln的理解以及我對歌曲的感受去詮釋 也就是讀者反應理論(Readers' Response)

我記得我剛開始聽這首歌時 是我出去騎單車時 一邊騎一邊聽著這首歌 風拂在臉上 心情很好 而這首歌很輕快 在這種情境下聽這首歌簡直舒服極了

而我以為Like a Rolling Stone應該就像中文"滾石不生苔" 意味精進不已的意思吧

後來對照了歌詞 也讀了一些搖滾樂的書 以及Bob Dylan的自傳"搖滾記" 我對這首歌才有更深的理解

這首歌作於1965年 前身其實是Bob Dylan所做的長詩 後來慢慢修改 因緣際會下才轉變成一首歌 難怪這首歌的歌詞這麼晦澀難解

我對這首歌的第一印象 是把這首歌當成是Bob Dylan的夫子自況 對於別人硬加給他的頭銜 如"時代的良心" "抗議歌手" "先知"

Bob Dylan十分抗拒 所以 他從來也就不喜歡去闡明他歌曲的意思 而且他跟反戰與抗議運動只有短暫兩三年的交集

Like a Rolling Stone加入了電吉他的部份 在現場演奏時這讓民謠的死忠派非常抗拒 認為Dylan背叛了他們 以及民謠的整個純淨理想

那個年代 搖滾樂是與吸毒 無所事事 反正就是頹廢的形象連結在一起的

不過Dylan只想做他的音樂 而且他一直在嘗試不同的風格 民謠是他的搖籃 是表達他想法最自由自在的方式 但是他並不以此為限

所以後來才慢慢"跨界"到搖滾 加入電子及其他元素到他的音樂裡 其實Like a Rolling Stone撇開歌詞不論 它本身的反叛性就很強 因為歌曲長達六分多鐘

這在當時是不可思議的長度 電台甚至刪減或者拒播 即使在現在 以流行歌曲的觀點 六分多鐘也是太長了

大四時在淡江修陳宜武老師的課 我記得初次接觸到阿多諾為首的法蘭克福學派對流行文化的批判 流行文化的一個特色就是標準化

我們琅琅上口的流行歌 其實都是標準化的結果 歌詞主題 歌曲長度 以及旋律及節奏都是事先計畫好的 因為就是要讓大眾容易接受

某種程度也像磕藥一樣 大家跟著一起搖頭晃腦 但內容常常是無病呻吟或空洞的

當然這個學派的觀點也有其侷限與偏頗之處 不過以其觀點來看Like a Rolling Stone的超長歌詞 不難理解其昭然若揭的反叛性 

其實 我自己在聽這首歌時 我只是很直覺的把歌詞裡的you想成是Bob Dylan 當他被眾人拱成抗議歌手的代表時 不也就是活在鎂光燈下 活在眾人的期許中

對另外可能的世界 也就是社會底層的生活 歌詞裡的流浪漢及雜耍者的生活不屑一顧

可是他後來慢慢理解到 "You shouldn't let other people get your kicks for you"

再也不要別人幫他做決定 活在眾人的期待 甚至壓力中 歌詞中嚴厲批判了一種霸道的思想 即使是某種社會運動 也有其強迫性

Ain't it hard when you discover that
He really wasn't where he's at
After he took from you everything he could steal.

那個強取豪奪的he是誰？是國家機器？還是欲將Dylan捲入其中並支配他的抗議運動的思想？

我不得而知 不過我很喜歡結尾的歌詞 歌手呼喊著："你應該把你的戒指拿去典當 把貴重的衣服全部脫掉

去找像拿破崙的流浪漢 他在召喚你 你現在一無所有 所以沒什麼好失去 好在乎的 你現在無所遁形 完全沒有秘密了"

這不就是徹底的放下與決裂嗎？

我想在每個人的人生中 都會有困惑之時

不過 我們有沒有勇氣去走上自我追尋的道路 即使和眾人格格不入 找不到心靈的歸宿 也中能堅持自己 像一顆滾石般 走自己的道路？

我喜歡歌詞裡對心靈自由的謳歌 我寧願這樣來解讀Like a Rolling Stone

現實人生中常常有不如己意的情況 你沒辦法讓每件事盡如己意 你沒辦法改變別人的想法 甚至你還要時時承受別人對你的指責或是誤解

這個時候 我會唱著Like a Rolling Stone,

screw you guys, I just want to have my own way!  

I shall move on, and never look back.
